Frequently asked questions
Which preset should I choose to email a PDF?
Start with eBook (150 DPI). If the file is still too large, try Screen (72 DPI).
Can I still select text after compressing?
No. Pages are redrawn as images to reduce the size, so the text in the compressed PDF can’t be selected or searched. Keep your original for that.
Is Compress PDF really free?
Yes. There is no signup, no watermark and no paid plan. The site is supported by ads.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. Your file is processed by code running in your browser. The page only downloads the open-source libraries it needs (for OCR, also the language data), never your file.
